This is an ultra rare Pink Floyd CD set titled "A Nice Pair". It comprises of A Saucerful of Secrets and Piper at the Gates of Dawn. The difference between these two cd's and the common store bought cd's is that these have been restored to the original specifications of the original albums. Certain tracks have been returned to mono and others will have a different compression and a more natural character as you would have found them on the original pressings. Tracks like Interstellar Overdrive are less gushy and fizzy sounding. You can hear the complex guitar picking where the newly remastered version just sounds fuzzy from overblown tape saturation produced the transfer to the production tapes. You'll hear a big difference and this is what the band members were all listening to when they were producing these albums in the studio. You'll also hear the songs composed by Syd Barrett the way he himself heard them when they played the tracks back in the studio. The remasterd version you find in the store today are pretty horrible representations of these great works of art. Hear them as they were intended! The package contains all the original artwork from the original double album. The cd's are professionally produced and printed for a rare release in Amsterdam in 1998. Here is a description from the package: A Nice Pair was orginally released in the early 1970s and comprised of Pink Floyds first two albums, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and A Saucerful of Secrets. This newly updated version has been engineered from the ground up using the originalanalog master tapes. Sampled at 24 bit using the latest state of the art digital recording technology the intent has been to restore both albums entirely while maintaining their original analog warmth and compression. Mixing, EQ and other sonic peculiarities have been carfully preserved to keep the original sound effect. Some tracks have also been restored to mono as they were originally intended. |
