Three-plus years after their last show and almost five since the last tour, the band returned for a long series of tours in support of The Division Bell.
The tours ran almost non-stop for seven months and this was the first concert—as usual, the performances were flawless for the most part.
The backing band was basically the same as in the previous tours, although the return of saxophonist Dick Parry (who played on The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here,
and on several tours in the 1970s) gave some of the classics a more authentic feel.
Probably the biggest surprise in the set was the resurrection of Barrett’s ‘Astronomy Domine,’ which hadn’t been played since 1971, while only two or three songs from A Momentary Lapse of Reason remained.
Much of the first half of the show is devoted to new numbers, all of which are played similarly to the studio versions—many of the ‘greatest hits’ were carried over from previous tours and are played in the same way.
Other additions were ‘Breathe’ (and the reprise), a new intro to ‘Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2’ that encompasses parts of Part 1 and 'The Happiest Days of Our Lives,' and ‘Hey You’ as an encore.
Perhaps the most appealing aspect of the 1994 shows was the fact that they mixed up the set from night to night, unlike in the past—several different setlists were alternated to include different new songs and
The Dark Side of the Moon was played in its entirety in some later shows.
This is one of the few dates to feature 'Lost for Words,' with a nice acoustic solo from Gilmour; later he fumbles with the lyrics in the first version of 'High Hopes.'
This tape also includes the soundcheck, ‘Astronomy Domine.’ |
